4pm CET- Sustainable Streaming: Can We Save Energy While Watching?

Our topic: the next generation of OTT streaming. What does the future hold?

The internet was not initially designed for streaming, especially video, and although ABR technology made it feasible 15 years ago, providing a quality service today can lead to significant over-provisioning. As we look towards the future, there are competing ideas for tackling this issue and making the next generation of OTT streaming more sustainable by orders of magnitude.

Our expert speakers will present their unique visions for the future of streaming, including TNO’s Arian Koster, who will explore what a newly designed internet might look like from the ground up. Pieter Liefooghe from Broadpeak will talk about the compelling case for multicast ABR, while ATEME’s Dan Patton will present their audience-aware streaming that improves efficiency by connecting encoders to the CDN.

Broadband Forum President Mike Talbert will bring his deep network knowledge to challenge the different visions of the future of streaming.

5pm CET - Sustainability Experts Series: Continuing the Conversation

The second hour will be an open interactive conversation for all attendees to get as much out of the discussion as possible. Use this session to network, and as we go through what we got out of the previous hour, find the relevance to your own sustainability challenges and come away with some actionable takeaways. Your contributions will also help us fine-tune our 2023 plans for the sustainability experts group so that our future sessions stay relevant to the community.
