Thank you and welcome to the event recordings page for the series “Exploring the UI / UX of TV Services Worldwide” produced by PayMedia and Broadcast Projects. You can access the recordings “on demand” below.
About the Event Series
Exploring the UI / UX of TV Services Worldwide was designed as an unscripted and informal series aimed at providing value in being able to review these platforms live, something that would otherwise be impossible due to geographic boundaries and the need to travel.
Summary of Additional Support Services
We also are able to offer a more structured series of in-depth reviews summarising the competitive landscape in each market, and the wider competition between Free TV (e.g. DTT / Free Satellite, Traditional Pay TV (e.g. Cable, Satellite) and new entrant streaming propositions. This includes the challenge of deploying TV Everywhere / Multiscreen services and the challenges around Cloud PVR.
For each provider, we can present accompanying slides which present:
Number of subscribers / Subscriber Growth Rate
Key elements or the proposition / business models. – e.g. Tiered Pay TV, 3rd Party Streaming Apps, T-VOD, EST, Monetisation of Cloud PVR storage.
Product / Innovation Timelines – Where does this product sit in terms of key product launches / innovation over recent years.
Recent enhancements / updates to this product through software update based on customer feedback / evolution of the platform.
Recent key marketing examples – Recent TVCs that mention the product or place the product in context. (e.g. how it is positioned).
A summary of the product and the ‘category’ it finds itself in – comparing and contrasting with other products in this category (e.g. in the case of FOXTEL NOW – other Android devices). How does it benchmark compared to others in this category?
A considered analysis / review of the product with slides produced in-advance which summarise the key features / notable absences (recognising that clients might require follow-up materials).
Guidance on other similar products worth reviewing independently.
Pre-prepared questions for the client to ensure we share and present their observations of the product.
Optional ‘expert panel’ who share their view with clients throughout the session and contribute to the accompanying slide presentation.

In this initial event we focus on the concept of aggregation. As traditional Pay TV platforms, Smart TV manufacturers and streaming devices such as Fire TV continue to evolve an aggregated view of content from multiple sources, how effective are they at selecting and editorialising content? Access the recording here.
Our second event looks predominantly at the UK & European market, which includes highly mature streaming propositions from major broadcasters such as the BBC’s iPlayer and ITV’s ITV Hub ‘catch-up’ services. We also compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of the key TV platforms in the market, e.g. SkyQ, Virgin Media’s TiVo based V6 box and the BT-TV / YouVIew, BBC IPlayer and ITV Player products. We look at the UI paradigms in each of those services and the features / products that are actively marketed – e.g. the concept of ‘Box Sets’ how content is editorialised, and the presentation of P-VOD, T-VOD and EST. We also review Molotov (France) and Joyn (Germany). Access the recording here.
This event looks predominantly at the US market and the user experience of various emerging Virtual MVPDs such as Sling, YouTube TV, Fubo TV and AT&T/TV Now. We look at how providers have introduced concepts such as Cloud DVR. We also look at the rapid emergence in the US (and overseas) of ad-funded AVOD platforms such as Pluto TV & Tubi TV. Access the recording here.
Our final event looks at the Australia and New Zealand markets, and the user experience of some of the key streaming services there such as STAN, FOXTEL NOW, Kayo, Vodafone TV New Zealand, TVNZ, ABC iView and Nine Now. We review how these platforms promote content, aggregate 3rd party applications, and differentiate themselves in an increasingly competitive landscape. We also look at the increasing role of public service and commercial broadcasters in the provision of free and ad-funded content. We then wrap up with a discussion to reflect on the key learnings and invite further questions from the audience. Access the recording here.
