Free to Apply: Technology Internship Funding for NAB Members and Students
PILOT, the National Association of Broadcasters’ (NAB) technology innovation initiative is now accepting applications from NAB members for its summer 2020 technology internship grants. This program provides funding for NAB member stations to offer paid internships to undergraduate students in radio and TV engineering or media technology positions.
PILOT aims to help NAB members that do not currently offer engineering or media-technology internships, particularly in smaller markets. The program will also provide resources for selected stations in identifying and supporting interns, as well as travel assistance for the selected interns to attend the NAB Show in Las Vegas.
The technology internship funding available to stations covers the cost of interns for eight 40-hour weeks, plus a database of resources and support in locating the interns.
The program is provided in partnership with the NAB Leadership Foundation as part of an effort to grow technical and engineering talent for the industry. The deadline and additional information for NAB members to submit applications for the annual internship grants can be found here.
PILOT is a coalition of innovators, educators and advocates dedicated to advancing broadcast technology and cultivating new media opportunities. It runs a number of projects including a platform for innovation, an engine for incubation, a venue for testing new technologies and a forum for broadcaster education.
For students wishing to apply for the internships, contact the station. Individual NAB member stations handle intern solicitation and selection once the grants are awarded.
NAB also offers a program that is aimed at students, which is PILOT’s Media and Technology Innovation Scholarship project. This is something students apply for themselves. Typically 5 or more scholarships per academic yea are awarded, at $5,000 each.
